John Diehl


Chief Executive Officer
As CEO of Black Sand Technologies, John Diehl is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the firm and assembling the resources and expertise necessary to execute the company's business plan.
   
Before joining Black Sand, Mr. Diehl worked at Freescale Semiconductor as Director of Strategic Business Development for its Wireless and Mobile Solutions Group. Previously, Mr. Diehl co-founded PrairieComm Inc., a provider of baseband processors and protocol software for 2G and 3G cellular handsets, which he sold to Freescale in 2005. Mr. Diehl began his career at Motorola and held engineering positions in its Cellular Products Division and Corporate Communications Research & Development Center. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
 


Dave Pietruszynski


VP Engineering
Mr.Pietruszynski co-founded Black Sand Technologies and serves as the company’s Vice President of Engineering. Mr. Pietruszynski has 28 years of design and marketing experience in the semiconductor industry including management positions at Silicon Laboratories, the Crystal Semiconductor division of Cirrus Logic, and AT&T Bell Laboratories. In his most recent positions at Silicon Laboratories, Mr. Pietruszynski was the Director of Engineering for the Wireline division, and later the Networking division of the company. During his career, Mr. Pietruszynski led teams that developed products for high volume manufacture in diverse applications including transmission, datacom, telecom, audio, optical communications, optical storage, and high precision timing products. He holds an MSEE from UC Berkeley and a BSEE from Lehigh University.  


Jim Nohrden


VP Marketing
Mr. Nohrden is a co-founder and serves as VP of Marketing at Black Sand responsible for business development and product definition. Previously, Mr. Nohrden held a marketing management position at Silicon Laboratories in the broadcast wireless product group that included the XM Radio tuner and the SiRX receivers. Mr. Nohrden joined Silicon Laboratories in 1999 as a product marketing engineer. In this role, he started and grew the highly successful ISOmodem product line. Mr. Nohrden held a semiconductor design position at Cirrus Logic focusing on high performance audio systems. He holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a minor in Economics.
 


Susanne Paul, Ph.D.


Chief Technologist
Dr. Paul is a co-founder and Chief Technologist of Black Sand Technologies and is responsible for product definition and technology development. Ms. Paul has 21 years of design and management experience in the semiconductor industry. Previously, Ms. Paul held a design manager position at Silicon Laboratories in the wireless product group where she started and led development of the first commercial CMOS GSM/GPRS power amplifier. Ms. Paul received industry awards for this product, including EDN’s 2004 "Innovator of the Year" and “Product of the Year” awards. Ms. Paul has been featured in Forbes magazine and was named one of the “35 People Who Will Shape Our Future” by Texas Monthly magazine. Ms. Paul also held positions at M.I.T. Lincoln Laboratory and Digital Equipment Corporation, where she was involved in the development of electronic imagers, analog-to-digital converters, and microprocessors. She holds a B.S., an M.S., and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds over 45 patents issued or pending.
